It is hard to believe that we are fast approaching the end of another successful year with C.K.A, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your continued support.
It has been another action packed year, and one I hope you have all enjoyed as much as I have.
Back in June David Benn competed in Stevenage, loyal supporters watched as David won his fight convincingly after scoring a fine knockdown in the second round. Johnny Ellis accepted the offer of his very first full contact fight at an I.S.K.A event in Stevenage, at very short notice. Congratulations for both fighters, who did C.K.A very proud.
Jake Gladwish competed in Ipswich, but had to retire from the fight due to a recurring neck injury. Thankfully Jake is now on the mend, back to training and ready to make his comeback in the New Year. Gareth Hurrell had his first full contact fight in Ipswich, and although he didn’t get the decision he was hoping for, fought extremely well and showed great prospects. We saw Gareth off to university this year, we wish him well and know he will be successful. We are pleased to hear that he will be back training with us during holidays and every opportunity he gets.
Our own competition back in September held at the Bury Leisure Centre was a very successful event, with over twenty clubs attending from all over the country. A very big thank you to everyone that helped out on the day, and also beforehand setting up, without this team effort the competitions would not be as successful as they are. Prior to the competition C.K.A had several members attend a Referees course under ISKA Chief Referee Pete Richardson. After attending the course, students were then put to the test the following day, which was the day of our competition, when they had to referee first hand, under the watchful eye of Pete Richardson and myself. I am very proud to say that both my Son Lewis, 2nd Dan Blackbelt and Jason Taylor, 1st Dan Blackbelt both achieved their ‘D Class’ Referee qualification. Joni Smith, Cheryl Speight, Lee Speight and Gareth Hurrell all achieved their ‘E Class’ Referee qualification. I would like to congratulate all the above, and to say how very proud I am. I passed my ‘C Class’ Referee qualification which enables me to referee
throughout Europe. A very proud weekend for C.K.A, and a great asset to the club.
Our interclub competitions in July and November went exceptionally well, with many youngsters taking part for the first time, as well as the more experienced. A very well done to all those that took part, especially to Jordan Langham who made his come back to the ring after injury, and did himself and C.K.A extremely proud. Again, thank you to all those that helped in any way towards the competition, it is very much appreciated. Our next interclub competition will be in February 2010, date to be confirmed.
I would also like to congratulate all those that recently graded, you will all realise now that you certainly do have to earn your belts. Just to remind you that once weekly training is expected if you wish to be considered to grade, right up to red belt. Upon reaching red belt, twice weekly training is then required. Please keep up the regular training, in order to cover the syllabus.
Congratulations to Johnny Ellis who competed in his second Full Contact Bout in Gorleston on Sunday 6th December. Johnny has been training extremely hard, he had a very good fight with only one point in favour of his opponent. Thank you to all, who travelled to support him.
There are many things to look forward to in 2010. Our interclub in February, Fight Squad training will be starting for all those wishing to compete on the circuit. Also, I am hoping to get some First Aid courses organised for adults and juniors that are interested. Aswell as the interclub competitions, we are hoping to host the East Anglian Open Championships under the I.C.O. Jake Gladwish and Johnny Ellis will be competing Full Contact throughout the year.
I would like to say a very big thank you to Liam Chipchase, who has spent a lot of time and effort designing the website for us, and has now very kindly added a forum. Please take the time to have a look and leave useful comments.
Our last training session before the Christmas break will be on Thursday 17th December. We will then return to training on Monday 4th January 2010.
Myself and my family would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, we thank you for your support throughout 2009 and look forward to an exciting 2010.
Kind Regards
PETER DUNNETT
